| NOMI MONSTERS
"Nomi" (「のみ」, a Japanese adverbial particle that means "only") is a special term that refers to some monsters. If a monster is a "Nomi monster", then it means that the monster cannot be Normal Summoned, Set or Special Summoned, except by fulfilling a special requirement. Nomi monsters always have the effect "Must be Special Summoned by (method), and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways" (formerly "This card cannot be Special Summoned except by (method)"), as well as the effect "Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set", if the monster in question is an Effect Monster.
Examples of Nomi monsters include "Armed Dragon LV10", "Doom Dozer", "Judgement Dragon", "Raviel, Lord of Phantasms", "Rainbow Dark Dragon", "Tech Genus Halberd Cannon", "Shooting Quasar Dragon" and most Elemental Hero Fusion monsters. It is also to be noted that the Special Summoning of these cards can only be done while the card in question is in the owner's hand unless stated otherwise in card text.
There are also "Special Summon-only monsters" with similar but somewhat less restrictive Summoning restrictions.
I deliberately made the advanced explanation above to give an announcement to you (specially for those who have not know yet of these kind monsters) that the monsters which can be Special Summon (Either through effect or the effect of his own cards / inherit Special Summon) is in line divided into two major types, They are Semi Nomi Monster and Nomi Monsters. Nomi monster, according to the above explanation is a monster that can not be summoned other than the condition listed on the Nomi monster cards. usually Nomi monster contains the text "This card can not be special summoned except by blah blah blah ". Because of it, Nomi monsters contains with more interesting and more complex effects than other monsters, example DAD is limited card till this day, E. Hero Absolute Zero and the other Omni Heroes Fusion Monsters (just imagine if Zero can be summoned over and over again with another card effect, of course this game will become more simple).
SEMI NOMI MONSTERS (Special Summon-only monster)
Special Summon-only monsters, often referred to simply as Semi-Nomi monsters, are monsters with the effect "Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned..." (before the Problem-Solving Card Text update, the text read "[This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set.] This card can only be Special Summoned...").
A Special Summon-only monster must be Special Summoned by its listed effect before it can be Special Summoned by another effect, as opposed to "Nomi" monsters, which can only be summoned by their own effect, even after they have been properly Special Summoned. "Aqua Spirit", "Harpie Lady Sisters" and "Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning" are all Special Summon only monsters.
After a Special Summon-only monster has been Special Summoned properly (meaning its summon was not negated by cards such as "Solemn Judgment" or "Solemn Warning", "Black Horn of Heaven and etc...), it can be Special Summoned through other effects. This only lasts as long as the monster does not return to the hand or Deck; as long as the monster remains on the field, in the Graveyard, or is banished, it can be Special Summoned again with other card effects.
Example:
A player removes from play three Fiend-type monsters to Special Summon "Dark Necrofear". If it is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard, it can be revived with cards such as "Monster Reborn". If, afterwards, it is removed from play by "Dark Core", you can still Special Summon it with cards such as "Dimensional Inversion".
If after all this, "Dark Necrofear" is returned to the Deck or hand (such as by "Phoenix Wing Wind Blast" or "Compulsory Evacuation Device"), then you must remove three Fiends to Special Summon "Dark Necrofear"'s again. You cannot Special Summon it from the hand or deck by other cards, such as "Monster Gate" or "Doom Shaman". If it is later removed from play or sent to the Graveyard (such as by "Graceful Charity"), it still cannot be Special Summoned.
Note that Fusion, Ritual, Synchro, and Xyz Monsters are treated as Special Summon-only monsters, unless stated otherwise. Also unless stated otherwise, Fusion Monsters are properly Special Summoned by a Fusion Summon, Ritual Monsters by a Ritual Summon, Synchro Monsters by a Synchro Summon, and Xyz Monsters by an Xyz Summon.
From the above explanation, it is clear enough, the difference between the Semi monsters and the Nomi monsters. Nomi monsters can not be summoned unless by using its own effect (in text effect only). While Semi Nomi monster can be Re-Summon from anywhere (for example by using Monster Reborn to to target a BLS in your grave and call it back from the grave) after the monster has been special summoned properly through his own card effect. Semi-Nomi monster has a typical text effect : "This card can not be .... summonned or set. This card CAN ONLY be special summonned by blah blah blah "in the text of the card effects. There are some fusion monster with this Semi Nomi effects, example E. Hero neos fusion monsters, Such as Elemental Hero Glow Neos. While on the Ritual Monster, all the monsters of its average has an effect of Semi Nomi monsters, so that Ritual Monster can be called back (Re-Summon) after being called by using its ritual card (properly way). In the Synchro monster, almost every monsters were classified to be these kind of monsters, However there are some synchro monsters that cannot be classified to be Semi Nomi Monsters such as Shooting Quasar Dragon (Imagine it if SQD could be Re-Summoned, what would happen? ). Yes, so thats a brief explanation of Nomi and Nomi SEMI Monster. Sometimes we often got a misunderstanding if opponents Re Summon some monsters from the grave, then we must determine correctly again whether the monster they called is a Semi Nomi or a Nomi monster, then if it was a Semi Nomi monster, you should to consider it again whether the opponent have been summoned the monster by properly way or not. Okay, Thanks for your attention, any question?
